Ninety years after her debut in Milan, the city celebrates the artist with the exhibition Io sono Leonor Fini, hosted at Palazzo Reale from February 26. This event brings together over 100 works, including paintings, drawings, photographs, costumes, and videos, offering the public a comprehensive portrait of a multifaceted and revolutionary figure. Leonor Fini moved through the most vibrant artistic circles of her time, leaving her mark on cities like Trieste, Paris, Rome, and Milan. In Paris, she formed connections with artists such as Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, and Pablo Picasso, and engaged in dialogue with intellectuals like Jean Cocteau and André Breton. While exploring various artistic movements, she always maintained an autonomous and revolutionary vision, resisting rigid labels—including that of surrealism. Her creative and intellectual freedom, along with her refusal to be defined through personal relationships or subordinate roles, inspired figures like Federico Fellini, Anna Magnani, Elsa Morante, Mario Praz, Carlo Levi, Luchino Visconti, and Alberto Moravia, leaving a lasting imprint on 20th-century culture. Her strength lies in her individuality and her ability to shape a unique artistic language, where women are not muses but protagonists. Her female figures—primordial and untamed forces—challenge traditional models of masculinity and femininity. Suspended between reality and imagination, her works offer profound reflections on themes such as gender, identity, and self-affirmation. Anticipating debates that are now central to contemporary culture, Leonor Fini distinguished herself as a pioneering artist, seamlessly weaving together art, fashion, literature, and performance in a path free from all conventions. The ever-free Leonor Fini continues to speak through her works, opening the doors to a universe where mystery, dreams, and imagination become tools for exploration. Her art represents a crucial rediscovery of her visionary and revolutionary message—one that resonates with new generations, inspiring and provoking deeply contemporary reflections.
